Lessons Learnt from Clinical Rotation
This week, I have learned how much evidence-based practice is essential to a nurse’s career during my clinical rotation. In the future, I will ensure that I listen keenly to understand the patient’s health problem and its context to provide them with safe and quality care (Northcott, 2020). I also intend to follow RN Lemus’s footsteps by specializing in people with diabetes; however, I will ensure that I provide patient care according to the evidence-based approach and not deceive them for financial gain.
I have also understood the dynamic when dealing with unethical superior staff. I will always take hid to my superiors’ advice after confirming that it is based on substantial scientific research. I will utilize the Comprehensive Predictor assessment/NCLEX examination preparation to reflect on all the material I absorbed during the training period. I will ensure that I understand the course content and use my imagination to apply it to real-life circumstances.
Summary of Clinical Rotation Experiences
During the clinical rotations, my experiences were excellent, and I was impressed by how I adapted to the hospital environment as a nurse. One of the most significant contributors to this success is the practical application of the Evidence-Based Model in all my patient care decision (Birks, 2018). I also noticed the importance of evidence-based practice in providing patient-centered care and effectively applying quality and extensive consultations with my patients and discussing their treatment plan with them.
I ever need to improve my healthcare quality by researching extensively by spending more of my free time researching the frequently occurring health problems among my patients. However, the experience taught me about interacting with various in a professional setting and the essence of effective communication in quality patient care.
I was also able to use emotional intelligence when interacting with my patients, colleagues, and supervisors. The evidence-based practice has also helped me learn the importance of critical thinking throughout my nursing career (Northcott, 2020).
