The Convention on the Rights of the Child prioritizes the role of families in the well-being and development of a child to grant them dignity, equal and alienable rights. Therefore, the Convention on the Rights of the Child focuses on children’s liberty rights and protection, thus granting them freedom at the expense of their safety (UNICEF, 1989). Given the fact that that that adults have more developed and experiences in the various aspects of the society thus children ought to respect their parents and adults.

Having grown up under the protection of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, I think that I was more vulnerable to various degeneracies to protect me from the rigorous discipline from my parents and other adults who care.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child ought to provide the parents with the ability to protect the children by holding the accountable to their actions. This is with the realization that when I was a child I was completely dependent on the adults and helpless, thus the Convention on the Rights of the Child is supposed to effectively offer children with an opportunity to take part in their own protection. Therefore, the Convention on the Rights of the Child provides a balance between the independence of the children and their protection.

Article 1 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child provides that a child is anybody aged below eighteen years and as they grow they get more entitled more independence as they grow up and gain the ability to taking responsibility for their actions. This is due to the maintenance of the balance between rights and responsibilities (UNICEF, 1989).

The Convention on the Rights of the Child on the other hand is effective in protecting the children from parents who may be abusing them or neglectful. Thus, the policy makers ought to have consulted in the formulation of advocacy for children. Children are able to think for themselves and determining when they are safe but this should be done under the consultation of their parents (Casey, 2011).

The Convention on the Rights of the Child however tends to provide the parents with the duties, rights and responsibilities to take responsibilities. Having visited various parts of the world, like the Asia, North and Sub-Saharan Africa it is clear that the CRC tends to take an idealist view of the protection of children without the consideration of the worldwide context.

Children from different cultures tend to be exposed to various conditions and vulnerabilities thus it would be rather schematic to come up with a set of rules that are expected to be universally applicable. Article four of the Convention on the Rights of the Child provides that legislative and administrative measures should be implemented in order to protect the cultural, social and economic in the provision of international cooperation (UNICEF, 1989).

This fails to consider that various states do not consider children’s rights concerning moral principles. The Convention on the Rights of the Child also fails to provide for the enforcement on their international levels regarding children’s rights. Therefore the organizations and association denounce aby violations while improving in the improvement of the situation without power imposed in sanction and legal judgement.

Having studied the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it was sad to recognize that the state loses the obligation and ability to implement the Convention if the state is overthrown or during times of wars when protection for the children is necessary. Furthermore I recognize that there are stateless children for example the refugees who are not under the protection under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In conclusion, international law is often distant from reality in fulfilling children’s rights whereby they remain dependent on families and parents. This law tends to be purely theoretical despite their promotion of principles of non-discrimination and equality.
